This is a short parallel to the "White Haven is taking shape" blog post. If you've been reading that one, you know I'm working on the town of White Haven, PA from the track level back up the hill toward the backdrop, and I'm working on the home lots from the back to the front.
A green craftsman-style bungalow was on lot number one. I decided that the owners would be lovers of flowers and shrubbery, and that their back yard was going to have a terraced stone structure where they'd have planted a lot of flowers.
As I was completing that scene this evening it occurred to me that I would have to name the occupants of each home I completed. I got to thinking of who had a green house and planted flowers in his back yard on a slope.... and I immediately knew who owned the house.
Back in 1991 I met the Wilsons. My principle interest was their youngest daughter, a beautiful statuesque blonde who thirty years later is now my wife and best friend. But her dad loved to sit outside in the springtime and admire the phlox that grew around stones and garden beds in his back yard. I'd chase his dog Bogart (who didn't like me) and had plenty of sit-down dinners in that green house. Well, back in 1976, even though you didn't know it - you were residents of White Haven, PA and you had one of those houses and landscapes that was the envy of the town! I'm going to do an homage to the start and finish of this lot via pictures...
The house we're referring to is the green one at the top of the hill on the left of the picture. It's sitting on a pile of Styrofoam.
So there she is, a couple of months later. The green house in the upper left on the top of the hill sitting on a layer of white Sculptamold. Roads are now in place.
And here's the lot - it's now been painted brown (for dirt) and other colors for stone. Sidewalk is in to and the road has been painted. You can see the terraced rock that will set up the flower beds.
And here's the lot with a house on it and no grass.
...and a lawn. But I needed flowers - and I found them on ebay....
And here it is with flowers and a backdrop at the end of the street...
...and some shrubs
... and some trees and a fence.
... and there's Mr. Wilson on the porch. One thing I do want to find is a mailbox to put their name on, and maybe put Mrs. Wilson on the porch too.... Who's moving in across the street?
I do have some mailboxes coming, but I had to buy a dog house for a place a couple blocks over and I got to thinking about my wife's Great Dane, Rufus. The Wilson's would have had him in their house in 1976... Here he is servicing the bushes....
... and of course, Rufus needs a dog house in the back yard.
.... and they had a light blue VW Beatle (it was a covertible, but why split hairs)....
